Roy David Ross

Roy David Ross passed away Monday, March 23, 2026, peacefully surrounded by friends and family, fittingly covered up with a Dallas Cowboys blanket. Roy David was born in Wylie, TX, to the late Delbert Ross and Ruby Becknell Ross, and spent his childhood in Nevada, TX. He spent a life filled with love, laughter, and unrelenting loyalty, even after many years cheering on the Cowboys to 8 & 8, and after 51 years God finally saw it fit for him to see his Texas Rangers win a championship. Roy David was a devoted husband, for more than 52 years, to his wife Barbara, who, in his older years, he chose to purposely agitate as his primary source of entertainment; a patient father to his five children, all of whom learned how to agitate their mother and stepmother, following in his footsteps. He was a proud grandfather who attended as many sporting events and graduations as he possibly could, even attempting to take his oldest grandson to get his first tattoo. Roy David’s happiest days were spent out on a boat, a barge, or the beach in whatever new tropical destination his wife Barbara drug him off to that year. When he wasn’t out fishing he was at home wrangling all the dogs he said he wasn’t getting, sitting at the donut shop drinking his first round of coffee, or attending church to pray for his family and the many antics they brought his way that week. He leaves behind four children, Richard Ross, Melanie Maddox, Tobi Wilkins and husband Vince, and Clara Lynee; grandchildren, Chase Ross and wife Sara, Nicholas Ross, Austin Maddox, Sydnie Golemon and husband Steven, Emily Parsons and husband Ryan, Evan Wilkins and Chelsea Reeves; great-grandchildren Ryan Marie, Jonathan Golemon, Anna Ross, Eva Maddox, Ava Ross, Ryleigh Maddox, Willow Parsons, and Junie Parsons; and entire pantry full of tackleboxes that were like his children. He is preceded in death by his son, David Ross, his sisters, Mary, Merle, Melba, Margaret, Martha, and Marticia; his brothers D.E. and Ronald Earl. He is survived by his sister, Marcy Bonds and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home in Lufkin, TX. In lieu of flowers, guests are encouraged to take a kid fishing, enjoy a cup of coffee with your Bible, and pray it is in fact “the Cowboy’s year” this year.
